Fortified Roofing Class

FORTIFIED practical training is being provided by Arcane Inspections and Smart Home America  

For contractors to receive grant money that will be awarded after June, 2023, a contractor MUST be listed as a qualified roofer in the IBHS system. 

Contractors and roofers need to know what needs to be documented, how, why and different options that are acceptable to meet the FORTIFIED standards.

This HANDS-ON CLASS will include materials to show and explain what needs to be documented.  The instructors will explain how to document and reasons for documentation. 

Instructors will address pre-inspection to validate that the structure meets minimum requirements for a FORTIFIED Roof.  Class will address the 2021 Code change.
  
Additionally, it will address the code change (2021 code) and explain, in detail, that the FORTIFIED standard is not much more!

This class will also prepare you to take the FORTIFIED Roofer test online. We recommend you bring a laptop and follow along as the outline will be similar.

Instructors will help students understand what, why, when, and where to assist attendees in taking the examination. 
 
The primary focus will be the FORTIFIED Roof process but will touch base on the silver and gold levels.
 
Chris Kutz of Arcane Inspection Services and Smart Home Americal will conduct the class.

Sonja Sheffield (SAUN YA SH FIELD) As Technical Outreach Director, Sonja engages communities
and Smart Home America's partners in primary and continuing education about resilience and
mitigation best practices. She has been working in building science since 2015 and is a certified
FORTIFIED Evaluator'M. As a liaison to professional trade organizations, Sonja advocates for adopting
the latest International Residential Code and the Coastal and Inland Construction Code
Supplements. She is no stranger to educating; Sonja taught library literacy and assisted research
projects at the University of South Alabama for nine years after earning her Master's in Library
Science from Southern Mississi ppi. She is from northeastern Ohio and lives in Mobile, Alabama,
