Together with the Home Builders Association of Greater New Orleans and the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), Smart Home America has organized an in-person training course for Home Builders, contractors, Association Members, and their staff. Learn about FORTIFIED Home™, FORTIFIED Commercial™, and FORTIFIED Multifamily™ construction and hear stories of success from Hurricane Ida. Understand how to achieve a designation, how your customers can use that designation to get insurance, where there is funding to build back, and what the new grant program will cover.
2 hours of Continuing Education credits will be available for contractors. Lunch provided.

Julie Shiyou-Woodard (SHY YOU WOOD ARD)
As the President and Chief Executive Officer for Smart Home America, Julie Shiyou-Woodard
oversees operations, provides organizational direction, and develops partnerships for a
national, not-for-profit whose mission is to build resilient and sustainable communities. Ms.
Shiyou-Woodard has developed and managed environmental and hazard mitigation funding
and projects in collaboration with federal, state, and local agencies throughout her career. Ms.
Shiyou-Woodard is from Pass Christian, Mississippi, and lives in Mobile, Alabama, with her husband and two children
Alex Cary Market Development Manager, The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) Alex is the Market Development Manager at the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety, providing direct support to communities along the Gulf Coast and Great Plains states. Alex previously served as the Executive Director of Smart Home America and the Construction Manager for Habitat for Humanity of Baldwin County, AL. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Springfield College in Massachusetts and is a licensed home builder in AL. Alex is the past President of the Baldwin County Homes Builder’s Association, is a member of the NAHB Single Family Builder’s Committee and the Construction Technology and Research Subcommittee, serves on the Executive Board of Smart Home America, and was appointed by the governor to the Alabama Center for Insurance Information and Research Advisory Board in 2014.
