Continuing Education Class: Introduction to Green Infrastructure
As our gray infrastructure continues to age and storms become more frequent and intense, many are looking for solutions to their growing flooding and standing water issues. Green infrastructure is one such intervention. Green infrastructure is an innovative and new form of stormwater management that is much needed in our region. Join the Urban Conservancy on Friday December 10th from 10AM-12PM to receive a brief introduction to what green infrastructure is, why it's important, and how it's being used in New Orleans.
Instructor: Sam Commagere, UC Program Manager, GIP
Sam Commagere is the Project Manager for the Urban Conservancy’s Front Yard Initiative and BASIN (Building Active Stewardship in New Orleans) programs. The Front Yard Initiative is an incentive and educational program that helps homeowners remove impermeable surfaces from their properties and install green infrastructure to help reduce localized flooding. BASIN is a water stewardship summer camp for school-aged children that teaches “living with water” principles through fun and experiential learning. Sam graduated with honors from Loyola University New Orleans with a degree in Environmental Science with a concentration in the Biological Sciences, was awarded a fellowship from the Institute for Environmental Communication, and is GIP certified. She is personally and professionally invested in creating a more resilient, water-smart New Orleans.
