Bid Preparation Class
GOAL OF THE CLASS:
The class will teach students various aspects of bidding for a construction job. It will also familiarize them with how to submit accurate bid proposals.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Understanding your numbers & margins are critical to ensuring profitability & increasing capacity in your organization. Accuracy in formulating the bid proposal is crucial to getting the job, & even more important to your bottom line.
This course will highlight how to create a scope sheet that itemizes inclusions/exclusions of the job, which will ensure your bid proposal will net a profit for your business. Attendees will be assisted in understanding how to effectively utilize the following project components in the bidding process: Profit Margins, Labor Burden, Overhead, and Taxes on Materials.
INSTRUCTOR:
Frank W. Johnson, III is a long-time resident of New Orleans and a well-respected entrepreneur and construction business consultant with over 35 years of residential and light commercial building experience. Over the last 25 years he has been a key advocate of affordable housing and community development. Frank holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Southern University at New Orleans, and a Master of Public Administration from the University of New Orleans. Furthermore, he has graduated from the Small Business Administration’s 8 (a) program.
Mr. Johnson is presently an active board member of the New Orleans Education League (NOEL) and board member of the HBA PAC Committee. He is also a member of the HBA of New Orleans. Upon joining forces with the Urban League 8 years ago he was charged with creating a construction lab to assist local Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBE’s) bid various commercial jobs in the City of New Orleans. The classes that were created and taught by him till this day consist of the following: Bid Prep, Planswift Estimating Software, Project Management through UDA Construction Suite, and Quickbooks for Contractors.
